Introduction
The South County Marshals' Office is one of three units providing security to the Alameda County Superior Courts. A Lieutenant is assigned as Unit Commander who answers to the Court Services Captain, who in turn reports to the Countywide Services Division Commander.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Marshals' Office personnel is to provide those services mandated by statute and the Court as well as maintain the safety and security of all who enter the courthouse.

Duties and Responsibilities
Provide courtroom security, maintain control of in-custody prisoners, direct juries during the trial process, provide weapons screening at designated buildings and liaison between local police agencies and other courts within the county. Marshals have been administered an oath so they can watch over juries during deliberations.

Courtroom Demeanor for the General Public
No eating/drinking, and no talking or making of excessive noise in the courtroom. Babies or young children who are crying/talking must be removed from the courtroom. There is absolutely no communication with in-custody defendants, either verbal or non-verbal. Unauthorized communication is against California Penal Code Section 4570, which is a misdemeanor.
